The finish was a series of esses that crested a hill at each of the first two esses then bottomed on a hard bump on the third ess. The car was always unsettled going through this section and it was at the top of 2nd gear. Two cars were unable to maintain control and did not shut the cars down earlier enough to avoid spinning off into the curbing.

Funny, that finish doesn't look nearly as unstable as it felt.

I don't know what everyone is talking about re those esses. Ryan and I were literally flat-footed from that back left hander through the finish, and never had even the tiniest bit of trouble through there. I had to really try to feel what everyone was talking about. There were no 'crests' at all, and one *small* dip - more like a slight depression. The problem was the esses themselves, and the temptation to go through there hell bent for leather. In the '6, we didn't have enough power to make it hairy *unless* we we went the "fast" way through the left into it; even then it merely caused me to push wide and take a couple cones out right at the finish. Cars with the power to top out 2nd before the finish needed to lift a smidge through the last right and would be fine. Besides the 2 wrecks, there was only one other spin there all day - the black z06 - and with "both feet in" he was well within safety margins. Note that in addition to driving it all day, I spent well over an hour going over that section with the safety stewards measuring and taking pics. It really wasn't anything bad - the absolute most minor depression at the E-center lot is worse than that one and with less grippy asphalt to boot, lol!
The two cars that crashed were both WAAAY overpowered and under-tired with novice or nearly novice drivers. The first was a turbocharged RX8 making nearly 400 whp ON STREET TIRES, with a novice driver. The second was an SRD20 swapped 240sx and in his own words "I just turned the boost up, hadn't ever driven it at those power levels before". On Hoosiers, but 205's. NEITHER DRIVER BRAKED AT ALL. The tire marks tell the story; both drivers tried to save it when they got loose. FWIW...
